Beach Gear and Groceries

We are flying into MCO, renting a car and heading to the area for a week long stay. What would be a good, inexpensive place to stop and pick up groceries and beach gear such as chairs and sand toys for my 4 year old?

Publix will have both and is everywhere in Florida. Depending on exactly where you are staying there will be one not too far away.

Walmart is another option. I prefer the groceries at Publix in general, but Walmart has a good selection of beach equipment.

Both stores have store locators. Use the post code of your accommodation.

There is a Publix on Hwy A1A about 5 minutes south of Port Canaveral. There are plenty of discount beach stores along there too altho WalMart will probably be cheaper you would have to head to Merritt Island for the nearest Wal-Mart. If you exit the Beach Line at Hwy 520 you will find Wal-Mart & Super Target in Merritt Island, then stop at the Publix on your way north on Hwy A1A.

There are two Publix stores in Cocoa Beach. There are also two huge surf shops around A1A and 520 along with several smaller places.

If you plan on driving further south, there is a very nice Publix in Satellite Beach too.

Thank you everyone! Publix and Walmart will be our first two stops on our way into town!

There is a new one of those Beach Wave stores (or something similar to that) which just opened up in Cape Canaveral. Its on A1A just as you round the curve to enter the city coming off the causeway and just past the port (all the ships). Its on the right next to the big Raceway gas station. Umbrellas, mats, toys, etc.

Wal-Mart or Publix are probably your best bet for general groceries, but if you have more discerning grilling tastes than Wal-Mart food I overwhelmingly recommend you stop at Cape Canaveral Meats and Deli. Its on Atlantic Avenue just a block off the A1A. Excellent meats, subs, etc. A good old fashioned butcher shop.
