Rehoboth and surrounding area in April

Good morning!

My family is considering renting a house in the area for spring break when the kids are out of school in April. What is there to do in the area at that time of year? The children range in age from 1 year to 11 years old. Not just looking for kid stuff, but grown up stuff too! Just wondering if there will be enough to keep us busy for a week.

April is a great time to visit, even though the weather is unpredictable. Almost everything is open, and people are eager to get out, especially on weekends and in good weather. If its sunny you can find a spot to sit on the beach or hike our awesome trails or rent bikes. If its bad weather, there's always the museum, movies, shopping and shows at the theater. If the water taxi is running, thats a really fun thing to do. And dining dining dining -- if you're a foodie, you'll love it.

Delaware Tourism Office What's this?

April is a great time of year to visit! The commenter above said it well- ease of parking, usually pleasant weather and nearly everything is open! Another bonus is that many restaurants and boutique shops will offer fantastic dining specials in April - if dining is something that interests your family - Rehoboth is the place for you!

Things to do.....Strolls on the boardwalk, pizza at Grotto's and fudge at Candy Kitchen or Dolle's - the kids will enjoy it! Walks/hikes through Gordon's Pond/Cape Henlopen State Park, tax-free shopping at Tanger Outlets, go-carts and mini-golf at Midway Speedway Park(open on weekends), take in a movie at the Midway Movie Theater, rent a bicycle in downtown Rehoboth and explore the sites (call ahead to ensure they are open...you could probably get the info from the local Chamber of Commerce which is located on left as you enter town).....

Also - for an adult activity -take a tour of Dogfish Head Brewery in Milton - or a wine tasting at Nassau Valley Vineyards. You will have a blast!

Great family friendly restaurants that are good for both adults and kids include Summer House Saloon, Big Fish Grill, Fins Fish House and Raw Bar, Dogfish Head, Dos Locos etc.

Also - if you feel like venturing out of Rehoboth - drive to Lewes (approx. 10-12 minutes). Lewes has a very quaint shopping district with cute stores and good food. It's a very family friendly vibe. If you're children enjoy ice cream - check out King's Ice Cream - an iconic stop on Second St. Great restaurants to try include Rose and Crown, Agave (not sure if they have highchairs), Touch of Italy and Striper Bites.

There is no way of predicting April's weather in advance. You could have some really beautiful days for relaxing on beach or strolling the boards and trails. Or it could be cold and rainy. The restaurants should all be open many offering live entertainment at least on the weekends. PlayLand (Our great reasonably priced kids amusement center) will not be open in April. If you love to shop our tax free Outlets will be open and uncrowded.

I find it difficult to tell folks about things to do without some idea of what they like. I can wax eloquent about the biking but if you aren't going to do this, no point. Same with the casino. I'd consider bringing some board games with you as the weather will be unpredictable. There are many good restaurants and you certainly could eat your way through your vacation.

Let me suggest that there is a reason that April is not high tourist season. As a tourist, you could go anywhere from Cape Cod to Outer Banks but none of them are that busy in the spring. So, is there enough for you and your family, don't know. If you like quiet- go for it but if your family is more of a disney vacation type- maybe not.

Try the kite Festival for the kids at Henlopen State Park in Lewes De. Only 10 to 15 minutes from Rehoboth. Runs typically on Good Friday.
