don't know much about hotels , other than that there ARE dog friendly ones in rehoboth....(and i'm pretty sure the sea estas in dewey beach allow dogs).

dogs can go hiking in cape henlopen state park (even climb the wwII tower with you!) and be on the beach in certain areas of the park.

during the season, dogs are allowed on the beach in dewey when the lifeguards are not on duty but need a dewey beach dog license (available at the town hall for $5 i believe, good for the life of the dog). you will even note that there are free "poop bags" at every dune crossing!

in rehoboth, during season, they aren't allowed on the beach or boardwalk at all but you will see them EVERYWHERE on the streets!

both arena's & cafe sole have outdoor dining areas where dogs are welcome....and lots of the shops will let them in too. browseabout books, in particular, welcomes them...has a treat jar on the counter & a water dish outside the door.

and of course the nice people at "critter beach" are always happy to meet a new canine friend & perhaps help him choose a lovely new beach-themed collar & leash!

ok, according to a search...in dewey, the sea esta is....

& here's a link for rehoboth.

double check any you call, however, in case their policy may have changed...don't know how old those websites are.

hope so!

btw, the state park office is down by the indian river inlet, they can tell you exactly which state park beaches are good dog-wise!

i think delaware seashore is fine with dogs (that's the area just north of the inlet).

i've taken mine hiking at several state parks in the area....most often the little, short trail at gordon's pond. my FAVORITE, at least in cooler weather, is burton's island, but that's been closed for awhile due to marina construction.

i also saw somewhere that "sharky's grill" in dewey allows dogs at their outside seating area...never have eaten there though.

i admit, it's much easier to take the dogs since we have a little house of our own with a fenced yard...

i'd love to hear how your trip went, and what you did!

oh...and there's also a "new" hiking/biking trail that runs along the east side of route 1, behind the outlets....leashed dogs are fine there, too.

there are several trailheads...one i know is right behind eddie bauer's outlet, but they are all well marked & easy to find.

i wasn't all that enamoured of the section we tried....mostly just farm fields, but it was a nice long walk. my biggest problem was due to my ancient dog, who REALLY hates walking on a leash. she never gets more than 3 feet away from me, so i wasn't worried...but i had a "warning" from a patrolling warden....i had to CARRY her half a mile back to the car! little stinker just would NOT walk on the leash...sat down & refusted to move. 16 years old....i wasn't going to drag her! even 9 pounds gets pretty heavy after half a mile LOL

oh geez...for an editing option! i keep remembering more stuff!

for a dewey beach dog license, you need to show proof of rabies vaccination, as i recall.

it's been a long time since i got mine...my two are #18 and 19 LOL, gotten immediately after they passed the law....but i'm sure i had to show rabies certificates. always a good idea to carry those when traveling, anyway. (along with a photo or two, just in case the pooch gets lost, god forbid!)
