1st time staying at Mohegan Sun

My husband and I are thinking about booking an upcoming Monday night at Mohegan Sun. We haven't visited there in years and have never stayed on the property. We thought about the neighboring hotel...the Hyatt (I think)...but we are thinking of taking the SeaJet so we don't have to take our car. We can just use the casino bus service from the ferry terminal.

We typically stay in AC but are looking for a change for one night. How are the rooms at Mohegan Sun? We're paying full price...are they worth it? We have paid discounted rates at Foxwoods and loved the MGM rooms. How does Mohegan Sun compare? Do they offer upgrades? Any requests I should make?

We'll be there all day on a Monday and into the late afternoon on Tuesday. Just some questions for those who frequent this property! Is there enough to do besides gamble? Plenty of bars with video-top poker? Is the drink service on the floor good? We have been there before...but it's been a while...don't know how much has changed! Thanks so much!

Depends on what "full price" is for the day you have in mind. I've never paid more than $79 to stay there. The rooms are very nice. Good sized, great bathrooms. They have several levels of rooms, I'd just ask if there are any free upgrades available when you check in. They tend to be very generous with upgrades on the weekdays. If you are paying more than $199, I'd go with the Hyatt.

There is enough to do besides gamble, but you might have to work at it some. The spa is very good, but pricey. There is lots of shopping, lots of restaurants, free shows in the Wolf Den every night. The do have bar top VP in all 3 casinos (Earth, Sky and Wind). I prefer the one in Casino of the Earth (name escapes me); has better paytables and excellent bar service and you can hear the shows in the Wolf Den from there.

Waitress service can be hit or miss. Some areas it is excellent, some areas are a virtual no man's land. Hope that helps.

Thanks for your quick response Diva21...

Unfortunately the room is a little over $200 for the night. Crazy...I know! I am a fully comped AC player but hubby and I are looking for a change for one night! I normally wouldn't even consider that cost! When I compared staying at Mohegan and using the SeaJet vs. staying at the Hyatt and taking the ferry with the car...the difference in price was only like $50. To me...I'd much rather be on the property rather than relying on shuttle service. Plus, we'll be arriving early and I doubt rooms at either hotel will be ready yet which would require a ride back to the Hyatt to check in if we chose there.

Do you know if they typically will upgrade "cash" customers or is that more for their players with comp and discounted rooms? hanks again!

Why don't you call the casino and see what they may have to offer you. I you are fully comped in AC--I'm sure they would attempt to do something for you if you really gamble.

Wantotrav is right. They might give you a deal upfront. If they don't, the comp system at Mohegan is very good and you can see what amount of comp dollars you have available on any machine. You could always apply any accrued comps to your hotel bill at the end of your stay. Forget about the $50 difference and go and have a great time!

Thank you both. I did contact a casino host at Mohegan and they are verifying my play in AC and then will see what discounts they can offer.
