Famous Restaurant

I'm lookking for a "famous" restaurant in Stamford, not too expensive ($15/dish max). Kind of like a Mystic Pizza type of place that many people have heard of or maybe it was in a movie. Any suggestions?

Try Hope Pizza Restaurant at 230 Hope Street, Stamford, CT. Very affordable. That's a classic and classy among Stamford residents, i.e. Springdale residents, with reasonable price. A family favorite.

Nick's Pizza at 522 Glenbrook Road (freshpizzanow.com) is another goodie.

Thank you for your responses but I think I should have been more clear. When I mentioned "Mystic Pizza" I didn't mean an actual pizza place... just something "famous." We'd actually prefer not to eat pizza.

I used to work in the Stamford area and Im not sure they have a 'famous' restaurant, but they do have a lot of 'favorite' restaurants to suit most cuisines... the first one that comes to mind is the Coromanel Indian Restaurant on Broad St, we have a smaller version of it in the New Haven area in Orange on the Post Rd. What type of food are you looking for? There area a lot of ethnic flavors to choose from here... Tigins Irish Pub, Ole Mole, Thai Kitchen, Smokey Joes Ribs or Sabatiellos Italian Grille.

Bobby Valentine's Sports Bar - owned by the legendary Bobby V - http://bobbyv.com/

Otherwise, I would suggest the Colony as well.

Sabatiellos is long gone (the woner in prison) and most of the prvious list is ho hum and hardly reflective of Stamford's diverse ethnic and culinary scene. Tho none are famous. Tops in town are Napa and Columbus Park. Coromandel, while onece the best in town has given way to the new Chino-Indian restaurants downtown, Little Budha for fantatic curries, El Charrito Taco Truck (featured on Food Networks ten top food trucks in America), Brazitas south amereican, Chavin Peruvian, etc. etc.

Point in fact, probably the closest to a famous restuarant is indeed Colony Grill. In a state known for Pizza, it is a standout, being a Stamford instituion for over half a century. The pizza is like no other anywhere in the country, and the iconic order is a hot oil and sausage. Cash only. Nothing but Pizza. and a real dive. Be prepared to wait for a seat after 6

I know your not in to pizza but Remo's Pizza was in a movie recently, "Away we go" with Mya Rudolph and that guy from the office. The Lake Side Diner on Long Ridge Road was in a movie with the comedian Martin Lawrence.

Why choose Stamford for "Famous Restaurants " ?

"Famous Restaurants are just that--places that have shown themselves to be top shelf....and they have the Ability to draw from all over.

Sorry to have to tell you this---but Stamford is NOT that place. Stamford may have some " good " restaurants and is the land of the business man and Passports....but NOT "famous" restaurants.

The closest area that has "Famous " Restaurants is New Haven. New Haven has several restaurants in the downtown area well known and long standing also a hamburger joints off of downtown written up in many various written articles and tv shows.

Next would be the Little Italy area of New Haven "Wooster St. " that offers several restaurants that are listed in top restaurants of Connecticut and been on many T.V shows featuring Connecticut and restaurants around the United States. These would be both pizza houses and full Italian Menued Restaurants.

Mystic Pizza is still going in Mystic Connecticut ----but then you'd need to move on to the Casinos which offer restaurants by famous chefs from The Food Network and also Famous Sports Stars like Michael Jordans Steak House. At this point you can easily eat your way thru the Casinos and enjoy every single second of it.

In Fairfield you can find a Hot Dog Restaurant known and listed as Tops in the States and shown on TV. Also a Wooster Street / Casino Annex Pizza Restaurant that can be easily located off of Interstate 95 is located in Fairfield Connecticut as well.

Again I must wonder --what made you suggest Stamford ?
