Is Niantic a good place for a 1-night stopover?

Hi there.

Thinking of a 1-night stay in Niantic in late October and was wondering whether this would be a good place or whether I would be better off in Greenwich...? Will be moving on to Newport after so don't really want to be any closer to RI....

It depends on what you are looking to do - Niantic would be closer to RI, and the casinos - Greenwich would be closer to NY. If you want to experience a different area than you will be moving to, I would suggest Greenwich - it is a nice town - you can drive around and view beautiful mansions, and downtown is a great shopping area - you can often rub elbows with celebrities at the stores and restaurants. Barcelona and Sundown Saloon are two of my favorites.

You are also close enough to NYC to take the train in if you stay in Greenwich.

Thanks Suz - not planning on going to NYC this trip - looking for somewhere scenic/nice restaurants etc between Lenox MS and Newport RI. Should I be considering somewhere else too...?

Niantic is a nice place to stop. I live in this town its clean and filled with friendly normal people. If you go down by the water and under the draw bridge theres a board walk and under the bridge theres a little tiny shallow bay with crabs(newly hatched baby ones too), shrimp, hermit crabs and I always see something different down there. Theres also several quaint little restaurants in the area. This is exit 74 off 95. The hotels are pretty nice theres a days inn and sleep inn which are nice

Niantic is very cute and is a great town to visit. Another possibility is the Marriott Mystic (which is actually in Groton). It has a first class steakhouse on site and Elizabeth Arden salon (I'm guessing this could be important, it is to my wife). We are close by in Old Lyme and love the shoreline area.

Another option, as long as you're thinking of Niantic, is Mystic, CT. I know that's closer to RI, but it's really only a couple of towns over from Niantic. Lots of nice restaurants and shopping downtown, Mystic Seaport, Mystic Aquarium, Olde Mystic Village (more shopping and eating). You may be able to go over to Clyde's Cider Mill in Old Mystic and see them pressing cider.
