Traveling to Hartford in June ..and do a day trip to Boston

My partner and I are traveling to Hartford, CT the 1st of June for about 5 days. I have a few questions for anyone that can help. We are debating where to stay downtown, slightly out of the city, etc.? We are planning to visit a casino or two while we are there, which do you recommend, we play slots some black jack? We want to try true New England Seafood any restaurant recommendations would be helpful. Lastly we want to do a day trip to Boston, we will have a rental car but would prefer to take the train any info on how or what train line we use to get there and some interesting sites.

Thanks in advance!

I can help with part of your questions. There are only 2 casinos, Foxwoods and Mohegan Sun. Neither is right near Hartford, but they're not too bad of a drive either. I prefer Mohegan to Foxwoods, but both are worth a visit. They are both HUGE properties, with lots of restaurants, shopping, concert venues, bars, etc. And Foxwoods has a wonderful musuem covering the Pequot Indian Tribe that was native to the area.

There's no direct train service from Hartford to Boston. You'd take Amtrak from Hartford to New Haven, then from New Haven to Boston. Most people take a bus from Hartford to Boston (Peter Pan, Greyhound) or drive. It is a very easy drive and if you're nervous driving in Boston, you can always park at an outlying train station and take the MBTA (our subway system) into Boston proper.

Hope that helps!

I agree with everything Diva said. For seafood you can go upscale www.maxrestaurantgroup.com/oyster/menus.php or no frills http://www.jscrabshack.com/ or http://www.chowderpot.com/. You can hit the CT shore in an hour a see the scenic thimble islands http://thimbleislandcruise.com/tours/ then drive down RT 146 to Guilford and eat at http://ljfishtale.com/ in Madison or get a CT lobster roll at www.yelp.com/biz/lobster-landing-clinton

Stay in town Boston...and enjoy the restaurants and things doing there.

If you stay in the suburbs--plan on doing things around the area you choose---but trying to travel in and out will be a drag in the summer...where as if you stay in town you can get around with public transportation.

Of course the suburbs have things to do as well...but not the same as the CITY !

1 casino may be enough for you--as others mentioned Mohegan Sun would be my choice---its big but I like t think easier to get around.

You could stay overnight as well --which would allow you to really visit restaurants or use the pool or spas. Or enjoy a drink or two without having to worry about getting behind the wheel.

From Hartfors--you will need to get back to the shoreline / 95 --to travel on to Boston by train...but if your driving --you can go EAST from Hartford and pass through many towns and such on your way to Boston Proper.

Neither casino is worth a overnight stay. They are not as well maintained as they were in the past and are very expensive. Unless this is the reason for the visit, I would skip them. You would be better to spend more time in Boston.

Many good seafood restaurants along the shoreline, Rt 1. In Madison, Lenny & Joes Fish Tale comes to mind, they also sell reasonable priced souvenir T shirts. Nearby is Hammonasett Beach state park.
