Equipment for Kathmandu valley trek

Hi guys,

we are planning to do a 4 day trek around Kathmandu valley mid of April. Its the first time for us coming to Nepal and I was wondering if somebody could advise the weather around that time of the year? We want to stay at teahouses and wonder:

- what kind of sleeping bag do we need (we plan to rent in Kathmandu)

- what kind of clothes? Meaning how warm/cold will it be?

thanks a lot

Fabian

Hello,

Welcome to TripAdvisor forum for Nepal!

April is summer time in Nepal and it won't be cold around Kathmandu valley at that time. It is not clear that what trek are you planning to do however most treks around the valley can be done with basic equipment.

Normal sleeping bags will work. Wide range available in Kathmandu.

You can pack light thin layered cloths including one of two warm ones. In case of weather bugs or rain you can use warm ones.

Good Luck!

It will not be higher than 2000 meter or so, so it will be warm.

Average April daily maximum temperature in Kathmandu, 27 degrees C., average daily minimum 11 degrees. Bear in mind that these are temperatures in the shade, so in the sun it's likely to be very pleasantly warm.

Looking back at photos of strolling around Balthali (in the low hills around the Kathmandu valley) last April, we were trekking in t-shirts and shorts. In the evening and for breakfast outdoors, light full-length trousers, and a sweat-shirt or lightweight fleece jacket.

A waterproof coat would be useful - average rainfall for April is 56mm
