Is Winter Park Crowded?

We are thinking of going sking in WP during the March 27-Apr 3 dates for our Spring Break..because it is so close to Denver, does anyone know if it is generally crowded compared to other slopes? We are used to the no lines, wide open feel of Snowmass ...thanks!

At that time of year few areas will be crowded. The season is winding down and many locals quit the slopes for something else, and vacationers don't usually come that late. I think you'll be fine.

Winter Park might be pretty crowded at that time of year, ESPECIALLY if your Spring Break corresponds with the Colorado schools and universities--all other kid's will be up there, too.

Have you ever gone to the other side of the mountain and skiied at Mary Jane? It's attached to Winter Park--take the right lifts to the back side and you can ski on over. Usually, it's much more quiet than the areas nearer the Winter Park base and the terrain is much more fun. My favorite is the view you get from the Panorama lift at the summit. Definitely try Mary Jane if you end up going to WP.

Mid March is worst for crowds. The Texans are on Spring break then, so you will find them everywhere. Having said that, Winter Park is huge, so once you get on the lifts, it is not that bad. We were there during TX spring break last year, and the worst lines were between 10 and 11 in the morning, and at 3 in the afternoon. If you get there right when they open, you will beat all the folks who partied the night before. Go early, go out to eat before 6:00 and you will be fine.

We're also skiing in Colorado the week of Mar 27 - Apr 3. We haven't picked which resort, but will be deciding between WP, Copper, or maybe driving further out to Snowmass. As we'll be there for a week, the extra couple hours driving time isn't a huge deal if it would help us avoid crowds. A little digging on the internet shows that all the universities in that area have their spring breaks on earlier weeks, but the Denver public schools have their spring break same week. Would appreciate any comments on how much impact that would be to resorts like Copper or Winter Park ... would there be much of an advantage in shorter lift lines if we drove out to Snowmass? We are intermediate skiiers.

Thank you!

We just returned from WP a few days ago. Saturday was pretty crowded at the peak times as mentioned by another poster. But come Monday, it was a ghost town. Not really, but comparatively. It was very nice Mon & Tues. No waits anywere. We went with friends that have gone there several years now and they said during the week, it isn't very busy. That's why they like it.

bq- the Zephyr is very nice. Great location! The staff was superbly nice. They let us check in a couple hrs early. We reserved a 2 bedroom condo and when we got there we were put on the end with no balcony. Apparently there are 3 rooms that don't have balconies (of our size) and we called the desk and said we were disappointed there was no balcony and they called us back 20 min later with a new room. They ran the keys up to us and took our luggage to the new room for us. Wonderful room! The original room was very nice and comfortable but you could tell was a little out dated. Box Tv, older but still in great condition furniture, etc. The new room had flat screens everywhere and everything was more updated, dark wood furniture and a nice little balcony that I parked myself on and watched the slalom cup racing. Great times! I have never stayed anywhere else but we loved the Zephyr.
