Where to stay in Vail

a mother and son are going to vail the week before christmas. we don't want to have to drive everywhere - we would like to walk to ski lifts and some restaurants nearby wihin walking or shuttle bus distance. We want to be in the $250 per night range- and looking for a very clean room- we prefer one with a kitchen but it is not a must ...does naything come blazing to mind that would meet our criteria?

Thanks you - Vail bound

You wont be able to use this site to make a reservation until last minute...but it is a great place to make last minute lodging reservations at a discount in Vail.

www.vailonsale.com

You might want to look around and decide if you want to wait that long or even a few weeks when the open (I think its this weekend).

Prices will be higher around the holidays (usually goes up the Fri before Christmas through New Years) and choices will be less, but you can save big money.

If nothing else it has lots of pictures of properties and describes its location and how far it is to the lifts.

Anything in Vail Village or Lionshead will be close to shops and restaurants.

Just read this morning Vail is scheduled to open Nov 18th with limited terrain, but the bowls should be open by mid Dec.

Check out Lion Square Lodge in Lionshead. They have both condos and lodge rooms and are just adjacent to the gondola. They also have a pool, hot tub and restaurant. I believe their lodge rooms are within your budget, and some places were offering a 4th night free during this week. There is construction going on in Lionshead, but your access to the mountain from this location is not affected. Re lift tickets-they are at their highest during this week, but you can get a modest discount, and avoid lift lines, if you purchase them online at peaks.com at least 14 days prior to your trip. They also refund your money if you end up not skiing one of the days. Also, the free shuttle that takes you all over Vail stops right near this location. Have fun!
