what to do in telluride in beginning of April

We are planning a trip to Telluride/Ouray for the dates of April 5 to April 7. Will the gondola still operate? Or is the ski season 2012 over already by then? Is it possible to hike on the mountain trial at all?

Many thanks.

Unfortunately for you, that would be the worst time of the year to visit Telluride. The gondola and the ski lifts are closed, the weather is usually bad, and there are NO summer activities available to do until the snow melts in late May/early June.

That's when most businesses close and everyone in town leaves on vacation. We call it "the penalty box" time of year... a.k.a. OFF season.

Actually, the gondola closes at midnight on April the 8th, which is also the last day of ski season. So you would still be able to ride the gondola. Early April is basically still winter. It will not be possible to hike, maybe now shoe?? Most of the businesses will still be open, but close shortly after that until mid to late May.

Here are a couple of links to activities - they may be able to make suggestions of what it might be possible to do at that time.
