I've never seen any horses in Yankee Boy, and I think I know why. The road into the area is very narrow in spots, and there is a lot of 4WD traffic up and down the road.

Driving can sometimes be a challenge when a few motorists won't pull over enough to let an oncoming vehicle through. I can't imagine how bad it would be trying to ride a horse to avoid it being spooked by vehicles passing much too closely.

I completely agree with WingLady. It's the traffic that would keep most from riding up there. All the Jeep tour companies take people there and many rent jeeps and it is one of the easier roads so it is recommended to those learning how to drive a 4WD trail too. You could easily stage a trailer but it is very busy...

You might consider the Dexter Creek area, it is a 4wd beyond the Mine tour but it has considerably less traffic. Cutler Creek is also an idea.
