Cabin rentals on Chicago Creek in Idaho Springs

Anybody stayed in this section of Idaho Springs? How much time should we allow to explore town and possibly Georgetown, before heading to Grand Lake for a week? What is the drive like between Idaho Springs and Georgetown? We are vacationing in July, and our kids will be 2, 4, and 12 at time of trip. Thanks in advance for your replys.

Sorry, I don't know anything about the cabins. Living here, I don't think of Idaho Springs as a vacation destination. The town is nice but it doesn't take long to explore. An afternoon should do it. You could stop at Beau Jo's pizza for a mountain pie, and take the kids to the Argo Mine to pan for gold if that is something they'd like to do: http://www.historicargotours.com/

The "main attraction" near Idaho Springs is really the drive up Mt. Evans, the highest paved road in North America: http://www.mountevans.com/

The drive between Idaho Springs and Georgetown is interstate highway. It'll only take 15-20 minutes depending on traffic. Watch for bighorn sheep along the way.

Just thought of another thing you might enjoy doing between Idaho Springs and Georgetown: the Georgetown Loop Railroad http://www.georgetownlooprr.com/

I've taken it many times with my nieces and nephews - they love it.
