2013 Thanksgiving Week

We might be visiting family in Golden during the Thanksgiving holiday. They have to be at work for part of the week. We will have a car. Any suggestions on: craft fairs, thrift shops and flea markets, farmer's markets, scenic driving, western flavor, trout fishing and just hanging out.in the area (up to an hour drive away).

Thanks so much - we have never been here.

Who is we, family, couple??? There is a nice quilt museum in Golden and some interesting shops near there. Of course the Coors Brewery tour! Drive west on I70 to Georgetown with their Victorian buildings and homes. Some fun shopping there. Also pick up a pizza (or dine in) at Beau Joes Pizza in Idaho Springs. http://visitgolden.com/ https://rmqm.org/zz/ http://www.georgetown-colorado.org/ http://www.beaujos.com/

There are plenty of antique, thrift and craft shops in the Denver area but many are located on South Broadway! I've found quite a few gems there in the past. http://www.antique-row.com/

Most farmers markets will be done by late November and trout fishing probably will be as well.

A nice outing is the Georgetown Train

For a nice stop before or after is Idaho Springs for a stroll. Cut little town for a couple of hours. I am partial to TommyKnockers http://www.tommyknocker.com/ others like Beau Jo's that Casa mentioned for a bite to eat.

On the day you visit Idaho Springs and Georgetown, do drive the open parts of the Mount Evans Scenic Byway. Here is the round trip route from Golden including the byway.

Another great short loop trip would be Golden Gate Canyon Road, up the Peak to Peak Scenic Byway to Nederland, down impressive Boulder Canyon to Boulder. Pearl Street Mall (pedestrian) in Boulder has lots of interesting shops and restaurants. Link for this loop

It is more than an hour away, but it would be a shame to be so close to Rocky Mountain National Park and not visit. November is a great time to see wildlife in the park.
