to and from the amtrak station

HI all,

We are only staying one night in Glenwood (during our California Zephyr trip), my question is, we are looking at staying at the Hotel Glenwood Springs, (can get a good deal) but concerned it may be too far out, we are on a tight shedule, it it easy to get to get about, I see there is a bus but the stops seem quite limited, are there taxis available.

regards

It's not very far out, but it is about a mile, bit less. I would highly recommend that you think about one of the hotels immediately near the station including Hotel Colorado, Denver and Hot Springs Lodge. The ability to simply walk there and walk to a nice restaurant (The Pullman) is what makes Glenwood such a nice stop on the train. You COULD walk to Glenwood Springs Hotel in about 15 minutes or so, if you wanted.

Have fun.

Yep, Valley Taxi can help you out. http://www.valleytaxi.net/

But if you want the most convenient, easiest hotel to get to, check out the Hotel Denver. It's across the very quiet street from the station. http://www.thehoteldenver.com/

Once you add the cost of a taxi to and from the station, the Hotel Denver may turn out to be a good deal also. It's truly a historic hotel, very cool and within walking distance to some great restaurants.

Hi All,

Thank you for the replies, we do like the sound of the Hotel Denver, but to be honest not sure we would be able to make the most of it - when we arrive its straight off the train to do some Segwaying, then the hot springs, grab something to eat, sleep and the next morning quick ride on the cable cars to the top for some pics, and then back on the train. Also breakfast is included at the Hotel Glenwood Springs which save a few pounds, the Hotel Glenwood is £60 for the both of us and the Denver wanted nearly £100.

we would probably walk back to the station on the departing day, we enjoy a nice stroll ....

we do like to squeeze as much into a holiday as possible.

Walking is always an option. You will be walking down a very busy highway, - US Hwy 6, which sometimes has a sidewalk, sometimes has a parking lot to walk through. So be careful of cars pulling in and out. The last stretch is over a pedestrian bridge, easy part there. Here's the Google map link - http://tinyurl.com/qcowemq

Thank you, the views look stunning, the bit from the hotel looks ok, the bit at the crossroads looks a bit hairy but then it seems to go to a pedestrian walkway to the bridge. we will have to have a chat about this.

I had to chuckle.

There is a very good brewery restaurant in Hotel Denver...

Its a five minute walk to the hot springs.

And you just take your bags across the street from the Amtrak station

instead of dealing with a taxi (calling it, wasting an hour, and getting there)>

2 minute walk - 1 hour taxi hassle both ways

Yep - sounds like a remarkable decision to not stay at Hotel Denver.

We're headed to Glenwood Springs for our 3rd time this year (last year missed it due to the floods...)

and we know its the best place to stay when taking the train.

Great staff; easy to leave your luggage; and you can be in the hot springs in 10 minutes and if the room is ready they will even give you the room early (and the staff will do it all with a smile).
