Colorado Marathon and Fr. Collins

OK...I know it's early, but my wife and I plan to visit Fr. Collins for a week in May 2010 to run the Marathon and to visit the area.

We are seriously considering moving to Colorado and want to see Fr. Collins, Denver, and Boulder.

We want to leave the Florida heat, only keeping a condo in south FL.

We love the outdoors...especially running, biking, and maybe we can learn to white water raft.

Combined, we have run hundreds of 5k's and 10k's,half marathons, and over 40 marathons.

University events, major league sporting events, and dining out are our passions.

We fly into Denver, stay in Ft. Collins, and will rent a car to tour the area.

We are open for suggestions. Please advise.

There are lots of options while you are here.

The rafting season on the Poudre River should be getting started about then. There are several local outfitters with whom you can book a trip.

You will likely want to head up to Rocky Mountain National Park to see some scenery, but don't forget the Poudre Canyon for hiking and picnics, as well.

There are miles and miles of bike paths fcgov.com/bicycling/pdf/bike-map-200711.pdf within our city. You can rent bikes at different shops, or, if you are not as picky about what you are riding, use the bike library (exchange your ID for the use of a bike for a couple of hours.)

Be sure to eat out on one or more of the patios in Old Town, preferably during a live music performance in the square. Coopersmith's, BeauJo's, and Austins have good patios.

Don't know how many days in advance you will arrive, but some warm up runs along Horsetooth Reservoir or the town bike paths may help you acclimatize.

As far as moving here, US News and World report just listed us as #3 in the nation for expected appreciation over the next 10 years, with an average annual expected appreciation of 4.1%. You can read about numerous other awards and distinctions here: http://www.fcgov.com/fcfacts.php?ID=6

We are a smaller town than Tally, but still have just about everything one could want. House prices are a bit higher than Tallahassee. The town is not overrun by football fans on fall weekends.

Good luck with your trip planning, move planning, and marathon.
