Have 5 hours to fill in

We will be arriving in Denver by 9 am. We don't need to be anywhere til 3 pm that day.. Any thoughts of some quick site seeing?? We are going to GOLDEN the following day. We are NOT looking to hike or anything like that just want a little quick adventure.

AVOID the E-470 toll road around DIA or your rental car company will assess a daily surcharge in addition to the toll.

Pearl Street Mall (pedestrian only) is a popular destination for interesting shops, restaurants and street performers. If you just stop for lunch in Boulder, you could probably take this scenic route through Boulder Canyon and along the Peak to Peak Scenic Byway to Highlands Ranch.

Note this route avoids E-470 from DIA to Boulder.

Boulder would be a nice place to have lunch on the Pearl Street Mall and stroll around/shop for a couple of hours. http://www.boulderdowntown.com/shop-dine

It will take about an hour to drive to Highlands Ranch.

Good point about E-470. I always forget to mention that!

To clarify - it will take an hour to drive to Highlands Ranch if you take US 36 to I-25. I don't think there's enough time to drive the scenic route that fv1989 described with your limited timeframe. If you arrive in Boulder by 10:30-ish, shop and then have lunch it will be time to leave for HR.

I agree it will be way to rushed. Now the plan is to go to Boulder and Golden on the same day. (WED)so guess I'm back to looking for something to fill in between leaving the airport and arriving in Highlands Ranch.

That makes sense. Do you have any interest in downtown Denver? There's enough there to do to keep you busy for a few hours. Or are you looking for a scenic drive?

Do you mean E-470? It is a cashless toll road. We get complaints and rants on the forum constantly because people were unaware and got charged fees by the rental car companies in addition to the tolls. Look to the top right of this page at the Top questions about Denver "Can you explain the options and fees for toll roads when renting a car?"

It would be good to know if you are looking for something to "do" (lunch/shopping/?) or taking a scenic drive to your destination.

Larimer Square is nice for lunch and shopping. But if you've "done" the 16th Mall you may have also been there. http://www.larimersquare.com/

Just a few ideas off the top of my head...

The Denver Art Museum is great if you are into that: http://www.denverartmuseum.org/

The Denver Botanic Gardens will have a Chihuly exhibit from June until November. http://www.botanicgardens.org/
