Cripple Creek in early May

We'll be visiting Cripple Creek during the first week of May. What area attractions (other than the casinos!) will be open at this time of year? Thanks for any and all advice.

The railroad doesn't start up till mid May but the Mollie Kathleen gold mine will be open. http://www.goldminetours.com/Schedule.html

Looks like some of the museums will be open as well, or may be open by appointment.

Be sure and take the Shelf Road trips----3 in all but for most you will need small/mid-size vehicle----dirt/gravel roads but the scenery is fantastic and well worth the drive!!!!!----there are maps in CC that show the routes---wonderful!!!!!!

Did you make the trip yet? How about a report if you did?

We just arrived back home this week. Cripple Creek was the first stop on a three-week road trip that included the national parks of Utah, Las Vegas, Yosemite, Kings Canyon/Sequoia, Laughlin, the Grand Canyon, and Monument Valley. We spent three nights in Cripple Creek as a part of the Stay and Play package at Bronco Billy's Casino. Stay and Play is a great deal that includes a free breakfast and dinner for two plus reduced rates at either the Independence Hotel or the St. Nicholas (we stayed at the Independence-- a review has been written-- and enjoyed it very much.). We did most of our gambling at Bronco Billy's, but we did visit most of the others. Everywhere we went in town, the atmosphere was relaxed and the employees were friendly and helpful. The museum, the "brothel," and the railroad were not open for the season yet, but we did visit the Pike's Peak regional center with its great views over the town, and I took the tour of the Mollie Kathleen mine. Cripple Creek is at about 9000 feet, and my wife suffered a little from altitude sickness (but not enough to keep her from the machines!) Although we came out a little bit behind (we got it back in Las Vegas and Laughlin), the NO SMOKING casinos were great! We'll probably wait until the off-season begins and Stay-and-Play is back, but we'll definitely return to Cripple Creek and might add Black Hawk and Central City as well.
