would like campground ideas for tent camping for Colorado springs area
What kind of site are you looking for? Something in or near the city or more out in the mountains/forests? Commercial campground with amenities (pool, showers, etc) ?
more in the mountains, scenic, etc. maybe along a lake or river. Must have showers. not too cluttered would be nice.
Ah, okay, "must have showers" narrows it down quite a bit...pretty much eliminates the national forest campgrounds.
Mueller State Park is the first that comes to mind.
Mueller often has a bear problem - don't know if I'd want to tent camp there. This from their website - "ATTENTION ALL CAMPERS: Mueller is Black Bear country. Proper food storage is required per regulations." See the full info at …reserveamerica.com/camping/…
Plus they are repaving all the campground roads and campsites there this summer so expect noise and odors.
thanks for the heads up on the bears, guess we wont be camping there!
Would you have a recommendation for a not so commercial camp ground? Showers not necessary.Edited: 1:00 pm, July 24, 2014
Mueller or Cheyenne Mtn State Park
I don't really understand the comment about bears in Mueller. Yes it's in bear country, as most of Colorado Camping is, that just means follow the rules about securing food and avoiding scents in tents. I've not heard of any specific issues there, and I'm sure it'd be on the news if anything happened. Also the park service would be ramping up both education and enforcement at the park if there were problems.
