Dispersed Camping

I am looking for a drive-in dispersed camping site (tent) that is near water (creek or lake- doesn't matter) for my 3 small children (hence the "drive-in " part), my husband, and I, within about 2 hours of Colorado Springs. The closer the better as my son gets terrible car-sickness between Buena Vista and here, even when driving carefully. Any suggestions? We're a military family and will be moving on within a couple years so your secret sites won't be used for long if anybody cares to share. :)

Take a look at Tarryall Reservoir and Happy Meadows Campground near Lake George. Chalk Creek has a nice one as well, but it's as far as Buena Vista.

You could check out San Isabel Lake south of Pueblo, it has 2 camping area's above the lake. Very close to you, just I-25 south to the Colorado City exit and west to Lake San Isabel. No more than a 2 hour drive for you. There is a lodge at the lake and restaurant. They have camp sites with tables, grills and running water spigots. The fishing is pretty good with the stocked lake and trails around to do easy hiking. Type in San Isabel lake camping and read about it. It is in the Sangre De Cristo Mountains just southwest of Pueblo.

For a developed campground I think O'Haver Lake is beautiful. Not overrun with big RV's. If you want dispersed camping find some BLM land or National Forest access and grab a spot. Agree with springschick's idea of Tarryall Reservoir

ok..silly me, had to really think about the meaning of Dispersed Camping....so now that I get it..So you want to just camp anywhere not in a actual campground with amenities. So my thought about the San Isabel area is still there..close to you in Ft Carson and now maybe head a little past the Lake and look for The Opher Creek cut-off on the right , past the lake a bit..many area's to camp there along Opher Creek.
