Actually, going I-25 (75mph) except through Castle Rock to 470W then 70W is the easiest and fastest.

I have a daughter that went to school in Golden,Co. It takes about an hour 15 min. from the south end of CS. Obviously you will bypass Golden, but that's just to give you and idea of a timetable. If you took the back roads, I'm sure it would much longer. So yes, I say so : )

Cosmos, if you want to get creative and take a more scenic route, head on over to www.mapquest.com and get directions using Colorado Springs, Woodland Park, Deckers and Bergen Park. This is NOT the shortest route time wise, will add about an hour going to Bergen Park to pick up the byway.

That is the route I am suggesting in reply #4. www.mountevans.com The Mount Evans Scenic Byway includes the section of 103 between Bergen Park and Echo Lake. There are 2 picnic areas along this route worth a stop for the views, Juniper Pass Overlook and Eagle's Aerie. There is so much more to the byway than just the summit!

You can see on the map this section of the byway (103/Squaw Pass Road) at this link. It is a very pretty drive and people often miss it by going up and back through Idaho Springs. I prefer going by way of Bergen Park/Echo Lake to the summit and then back through Idaho Springs.

take colorado 103 squaw pass road to or from evergreen, a neat little town in the valley. for beautiful views on the way to echo lake and mount evans. Idaho spirngs is also neat with Argo mine tours.
