Castle Rock or Colorado Springs for young couple?

I currently live in Minneapolis MN and I recently accepted a job in Colorado Springs. My boyfriend are moving to Colorado in August and we could use some help. He is still in the process of searching for a job (in the hospital/IT department). We are a young couple (27) and want to ensure we are close to activities such as concerts, restaurants that are not chains, fun bars, but also in a safe place. Because he is in the process of finding a job, we are thinking Denver may be a higher possibility. Please provide your thoughts for each place and which would be a good place to move to. Any feedback is appreciated.

This question has been asked a few times. Sometimes people get some comments in before Trip Advisor closes the forum down (does meet the guidelines). Check out this link, but there are others.
