Beaver Creek vs Vail

Hello - we are trying to decide between Beaver Creek and Vail for a few days in August. We like light hiking, pretty scenery, some light bike riding. Saw some mention in the Vail forum that Vail is right off the highway and therefore not quite the scenic peaceful experience of Beaver Creek. Any thoughts of the pros and cons of both towns? We will have a car. Thank you!

Vail is right off the freeway but if you're in the village proper (Lodge at Vail, etc.) it's not the least bit of a distraction. Vail is more active than Beaver Creek - far more restaurants, etc. You do have easy access to the mountain for hiking and mountain biking.

Personally, in summer, I prefer Beaver Creek. It's more peaceful. Hiking access is far easier. If you do stay in Beaver Creek make sure you're in the village proper (Hyatt, Osprey, etc.) and not outside (Pines). While there are less restaurants, there are enough. And you can easily get down the mountain to the Westin or Edwards.

I just LOVE staying in Beaver Creek in the summer. If you stay at the Hyatt, you just walk out the back door and you're on a nice hiking trail up the mountain.

Have fun.

Thanks Tumbleweed for your perspective. We have a tentative reservation at the Pines - I know you have to walk a bit to the village from there, but we got a great price (less than half of the Hyatt). Is the distance to the village much of an issue? We don't mind walking a few minutes....

That's fine. It's a really nice hotel - been there many times. You can walk to the village in 7-10 minutes or take the shuttle. Yah, Hyatt is super expensive and does a thriving summer business.

Have fun.

Beaver Creek is an excellent choice, and all is within walking distance.

Do drive to Vail as well.

Parking is great in both.

Agree with Tumbleweed that Beaver Creek is the ultimate Summer destination.

Avon is a small town @ the base of Beaver Creek, &, as mentioned, check out the top attractions in Edwards. Do walk around iconic Vail while you're in the area.
