Griffiths Observatory without a car

Will be staying at the Chamberlain Hotel without a car and would like to visit Griffiths Observatory. What are our options for getting there and at what cost?

Note that the Observatory is closed Mondays.

Main options to get there from your hotel - taxi (about $30 each way), or public transit. Public transit only goes to the observatory on Saturday and Sunday. From Tuesday to Friday taxi is the only way. To go via public transit on Saturday or Sunday, walk southeast from your hotel to the corner of Santa Monica Blvd. and La Cienega Blvd. There take Metro Bus 704 or 4 heading east. Exit the bus at Santa Monica Blvd. and Vermont Ave. At that intersection there's a subway station for the Red Line subway. Take the subway one stop towards North Hollywood and exit at the Sunset / Vermont station. From that station you can take the DASH Weekend Observatory shuttle up to the observatory. You'll need to buy a TAP card ($1) for the subway - you only need to buy this once. Metro Bus 704 and the subway are $1.50 per ride. The DASH bus is $0.75 or $1 I believe.
