State capitol of California?

I have a silver spoon from SAN FRANCISCO

It has the following text:

On the front: EUREKA 1849

On the back: STATE CAPITOL

On the spoon it self: GOLDEN GATE

There is no bridge over Golden Gate on the spoon.

hejac, The spoon has the Great Seal of The State of California on it. The state capitol of California is in Sacramento, but I have seen this symbol on spoons and other memento's from California. So, basically, what is say is that San Francisco is in the state of California. Not that SF is the capitol of the state, but was an important part of California becoming a state, what with it being the major port during the gold rush of 1849. Hope that this clears up some things for you.

Here's some history about the location of CA's capital:

Monterey 1775-1849

San Jose 1849-1851

Vallejo 1852-1853

Benecia 1853-1854

Sacramento 1854 to present except for a 4 month period in 1862 when it was moved to San Francisco due to severe flooding in Sacramento.

Those collector spoons contain a variety of information that is not necessarily related to one another. Many spoons include the words Wawona, Eureka and California. Many spoons contain the words Golden Gate though they predate the bridge. The phrase Golden Gate was used to describe the mouth of the bay that brought sailing vessels to the golden state, thus the term Golden gate.

Thank you for the information.

I forgot to tell there is a picture of a horse carriage driving through a gate in a big tree. Is this really possible?

Is the tree still living? Where is/was this tree?

Sincerely: hejac

There are three drive-through trees on the Redwood Coast:

The Chandelier Tree (most famous) in Leggett-Highway 101, south of the Humboldt County border (3 1/2 hours from SF)

The Shrine Drive-Thru Tree in Myers Flat, on the Avenue of the Giants (4 1/2 hours from SF)

The Klamath Tour-Thru Tree (Highway 101, north of the Humboldt County border) (6 1/2 hours from SF)

All are privately owned and charge a fee to drive through.
