Any sites to see or any wineries to visit?
Humm. Shop and Eat in its main shopping area I guess. Have not been to that area in years but if I recall, it has a small cozy "downtown" area with a few restaurants. Sunnyvale is known for its Silicon Valley startups and Tech companies but not for its sites and wineries. Take caltrain to SF and enjoy THE city.
I lived in Sunnyvale for almost 10 years during the time they were tearing out the orchards for subdivisions and building shopping centers to serve them. It really does not have an entity of its own, nor a real "downtown" unless they have revitalized that. The area is Silicon Vally and it all sort of runs into each other with shopping malls and subdivisions, and industrial "parks".
As belomiser says, for wineries you will need to go out of Sunnyvale, towards the Santa Cruz mountains. THE city (SF) is easily available by Caltrain or auto.
Come on over to the beach at Santa Cruz.....about an hour's drive, or less.
San Jose has the Tech Museum and the Rosicrucian Museum (I know nothing about it.....Egyptian artifacts.) And the Winchester Mystery House, which I think is a rip-off. Stanford, of course, has the University on lovely property. The Memorial Chapel is beautiful.
El Camino Real in Sunnyvale has numerous good Chinese, Japanese, Indian, and other restaurants (e.g. a great Persian place). They're not concentrated in one area, just all along the road in various strip malls.
What is caltrain? I nerd to get from sfo to sunnyvale
Not in Sunnyvale but some near by wineries to visit would be:
1) Mountain Winery (also known for their summer concerts)
2) J. Lohr Tasting Room in downtown San Jose
3) Cinneabar in Saratoga
For food and wine, Cin Cin restaurant in Los Gatos is good (book on open table in advance ifinterested)
As mentioned, there is also the Santa Cruz Mountain Wineries;
and there is also Livermore Wineries (about an hour drive from Sunnyvale)
In terms of sites in Sunnyvale, the closest would be the Computer Museum in Mountain View.
To the Poster from Fremont.
Trip Advisor posts have a date associated with them. If you notice, the Original Post is from Jan 4, 2012. Unless that poster has indicated they need more info, my opinion is that the OP may not need data almost 15 months later and may have already visited

My husband is off to Sunnyvale and staying in a hotel on El Camino Real East. I am wanting to send him off to an outlet shopping mall plus a Walmart. Can anyone let me know the name of the best one in the area, hoping the Walmart is in the same complex? Thanks!
Best to start your own thread as this is a thread from June
To find the closest walmart, all you go is to maps.google.com and type in walmart near the hotel address and he can see the closest ones. Walmarts are not that big of a deal in the Bay area even though there are a few small walmarts scattered around the area. I recall seeing some huge walmarts in the other parts of the US that were HUGE.
Based on a quick google search I see one in Mountain view and one the Milpitas area and that would be close to the Milpitas great mall which I think is an outlet mall. Locals may know more about that outlet mall that I do.Edited: 6:14 pm, August 21, 2013
