Scenic drive from Cloverdale - Mendocino or Bodega Bay?

Hi there - some friends and I have rented a place in Cloverdale in November and have our primary tasting days arranged for. One day we would like to focus more on scenery/nature (give our livers and our wallets a rest) ... we'd like to see the redwoods and the coast, and perhaps scatter in a tasting or two at places with great views that are on the way. I'm looking for suggestions bearing in mind that we're staying in Cloverdale -- would you recommend heading northwest toward Mendocino or southwest toward Jenner or Bodega Bay? Thanks in advance!!

Great advice from JackRabbit but the it's the Anderson Valley not the Alexander where Navarro Winery is located. There are so many fine wineries there, that you may want to schedule a whole day to visit them. Some of the best Pinot Noir and sparkling wines come from this region.

You said you wanted one day....away from wineries.....nature, scenery. I would not drive to Mendocino.

I would go towards Jenner and at Guerneville visit Armstrong Grove Redwoods Nature Preserve (a State Park). Then go to Jenner and drive up the coast as far as For Ross State Park, 13 miles, where you will be driving in scenery to rival Big Sur. Fort Ross was a Russian outpost in the 1830's and the small Russian Orthodox wooden chapel there is a real photo-op.

When you come back, to avoid the twisty road on the cliffs, go north 3 miles to Timber Cove Inn, Stop inside to admire the soaring architecture, have a coffee, admire the view. Then, across the Inn from Hwy 1 take Timber Cove Road up to the ridge, turn right on Seaview Road and take it south until you run back into Hwy 1 north of Jenner. You would not regret this trip and can do it easily from Cloverdale in a day.
