Sonoma Plaza Tasting Rooms

Can anyone recommend some tasting rooms in Sonoma. Prefer red wines and some ambiance. Thanks

We really enjoyed Sonoma Enoteca which is on the square. They have many different wines from small producers. It was not a "sit-down" kind of wine tasting, but they had some really nice reds.

This Jan. article from our local paper re: tasting rooms around the Sonoma Plaza may be helpful in your planning: …pressdemocrat.com/2012/… I like Hawkes (Cab) and Roessler (Pinot Noir).

A couple of other suggestions:

Westwood - a little hard to find but look up for the sign which hangs from the entry "hall"

Charles Creek- tiny and largely a giftshop, but the air about the place is pleasant and the wines are good- taste the Muy Bonito and the chocolate-infused port

Would definitely second Roessler if they are still open- we aren't pinot drinkers and bought several there

That's a GREAT article Froestvillian! Thanks for the link. I knew that the number of tasting rooms was growing, but didn't realize the extent.

AWE-SOME!!!!

I would also like to recommend the Sonoma Enoteca, located in a corner of Sonoma Plaza. It is a collective of small, family-run wineries, so it's great to be able to taste many wines in one place covering a broad spectrum of styles, varietals and vintners. It seemed like there were a good ten or so different wineries represented.

Joanne was behind the counter when we discovered the place several days ago. We practically had her to ourselves and were very entertained chatting with her about the wines and living in the region, Sonoma in particular.

She was very generous and enthusiastic, letting us taste a few more than we officially signed on for :)

If you happen to go there, our favorites were the Victor Hill Pinot, the Grieve Sauvignon Blanc and the Solitude French Chardonnay. But we didn't taste any we didn't like.

The Enoteca has a lot of nice gifty items as well.
