Hotels!

Hi i'm still in the process of trying to find the best hotel for our stay in s.monica!

we have narrowed it down to the holiday inn on the pier or doubletrees!

Doubletrees is coming up cheaper but i understand it's further

from the beach! does anyone know how far it is from the beach as we are not hiring a car? and whether it is nicer than the holiday inn?

many thanks

Hi,

Holiday Inn is definitely closer to the beach. It is not on the pier, but near the pier and the oceanand easily walkable. It is also easy walking distance to the 3rd street promenade. The location is better than the Doubletree if you don't have a car. I don't know which is better to stay at since I don't know anyone who's used either.

Did you check out the Hotel California? It's just about on the beach and has a very beachy type atmosphere.

There's a good public bus system in Santa Monica so it's not difficult to get around. You could also rent bikes, a great way to travel around town.

Enjoy

Here's info on the two hotels:

Holiday Inn: tripadvisor.com/Hotel_Review-g33052-d82057-R…

Click on "Hotel Photos" to the right of the photo on the linked page above. When the pictures appear, keep in mind that there are more than one screen of photos which you can select by either clicking the NEXT link or selecting each collection from the dropdown menu.

Doubletree: tripadvisor.com/Hotel_Review-g33052-d82054-R…

There is no question that the Doubletree is a nicer looking hotel inside and out. It's much newer than the Holiday Inn and the architecture is more interesting,

The walking distance from the Holiday Inn to the ramp that leads to the Santa Monica pier (and the beach): 1 minute

The walking distance from the Doubletree to the ramp that leads to the Santa Monica pier (and the beach): 10 minutes

The Doubletree is largely a "suite" hotel which means that a lot of the rooms have separate "sitting areas" with sofabeds although Doubletree does have standard rooms as well.

Important to note about Holiday Inn: It's surrounded by construction on all sides.

Good point about the construction around the Holiday Inn. Even without the construction it's in a busier, noisier area than the Doubletree.
