Please advice Santa Monica - Hollywood and Whale watching

Hello, we're in Santa Monica 13-16 August and have no car. Renting one is not an option for us.

My daughter (14) wants to see Hollywood, Rodeo Drive, walk of fame etc

We would also like to go whalewatching.

Do you have suggestions as how to get there by public transport or a tour? Preferably not too expensive ;-)?

There are plenty of tours that will take you around the metro area. Here are 3 tour companies:

(click on the drop-down menu at the top of the page and select 'santa monica')

Also, Starline offers their Hop On. Hop Off (HoHo) tour which features 4 intersecting coach routes which you can ride unlimitedly within any 24 or 48 hour period. This is a 'self tour' where you hop off where you wish and hop back on later to continue the tour (the buses run every 20 to 30 minutes). Info is here: (you can join the tour at any of its stops and just pay the driver):

Whale watching is more difficult. While nearby Marina del Rey offers whale watching during the winter months for the gray whale migration, the summer migration of the hump back and blue whales, the closest port (to my knowledge) for these sightings is either Palos Verdes or Long Beach both of which are difficult to reach by public transit and an expensive taxi ride away. I do not believe that there are tours to these ports.
