One night in SM/MDR

Hi

As part of our great American roadtrip this October, we plan on stopping over in SM for one night travelling from San Luis Obispo through to Palm Springs and wondered whether it was better to stay in SM itself or Marina Del Rey.

As I said, just one night, mainly as a stopover, but we'll probably have a few hours to kill in the afternoon and evening before setting off fairly early the following day.

We like the look of the pier area and surrounding restaurants etc, but since we're not going to be there for that long, would MDR be a better place to stay? Both appear to have plenty of restaurants etc, but SM seems more of an interesting place for a one-nighter.

Hotels in MDR also look more expensive, although this isn't a major hurdle. I also heard SM is a pain to park in. Do most of the hotels have secured parking garages?

Thanks in advance.

All hotels include parking. Santa Monica is a much better place for a one night stopover. Park the car and walk to surrounding shops and restaurants.

Santa Monica for your one night stay So much more to do there in one evening. If you picked MDR, you'd be driving back to SM, the Pier, shops and restaurants.

Thanks for the advice. I did wonder if that would be the case.
