New places downtown?

Heading to Santa Barbara first week of April. Was wondering if any new tasting rooms or restaurants opened since last summer that are worth checking out? I get to town about once a year and like to visit new spots. Last summer I visited Pali and Riverbench tasting rooms and Sama Sama on State Street. Also wondering if anyone knows when the Public Market will open. Thanks!

Sama Sama opened March 2013. Restaurants to consider that have opened since then, include - Seven, Lucky Penny, The Lark, the Blue Tavern, Toma, Brasil Arts, and Los Agaves (de la Vina). santabarbara.com/dining/restaurant_list.asp…

The Public Market is apparently opening in spring of 2014. http://sbpublicmarket.com/

The Santa Barbara Public Market is now open. We stopped by Easter weekend and it was busy with people coming to check out the stalls and restaurants. It's a good reason to go a few blocks farther north on State Street to see more of downtown area. Ice cream, cheese, meat, pasta, bread store, wine shop, seafood, and a grocery-provisions location. A fun stop to get a snack or a meal if you don't mind waiting in line for a seat, or get take out box and find a seat in one of the small seating areas.

For the grocery area, it's a place for high net worth shoppers or if you urgently need something to complete a recipe and it's the closest option, just ignore the prices. A brand of olive oil we buy regularly was twice the retail price we normally pay.

There is on site parking, or use the public lot just south of Victoria Street at Chapala St.

We walked around and waited in line to try out The Empty Bowl - a Thai Asian restaurant counter inside the SB Public Market. It was pretty good but a bit tame/Gringo style for American palates. We have been to Thailand several times so like our food a bit spicier. There is a pepper tray (pickled, dry and wet hot pepper puree) so we doctored up our Larb Tacos (larb gai on small lettuce leaves) and Pad Thai. The Empty Bowl offers beer and wine plus Thai Iced Tea. While the restaurant is getting its sea legs/shake out period, they did not offer carry out service.
