Lunch stop between LAX and SB

We will be landing at LAX around 11a.m. and heading up the PCH to SB. Since we're arriving from Chicago I think we'll be looking for lunch before we get to SB, any suggestions for something along the way? Also, is it a good idea to take the PCH as opposed to heading up 101?

Relax. You're on vacation! The 1 is a fun mostly seaside drive nearly the whole way from LAX to SB. I think it would be out of the way to get on the 405-101, only to dive back down to the 1 to Santa Monica or Malibu. (Although the back roads like Topanga. Malibu Cyn, Kanan, and Mulholland are fun)

LAXits right onto the 1 to Sepulveda and Lincoln and drops right into Santa Monica. Sta. Monica does have dining but can't remember where I've eaten, usually on the 3d st Promenade, but that is major shopping central. The drive to Malibu is about an hour.

The drive between Malibu and Oxnard is only about an hour drive apart anyways. I'm not a local but it seems like the traffic is mostly in Malibu around commute times or cuz o the tourists.

Here are some of our favorites when we daytrip, etc. to Malibu and LAX:

Pizzicotto's for great Italian in Brentwood http://www.pizzicottorestaurant.com/ .

Zengo for Latin-Asian tapas and drinks in Santa Monica www.richardsandoval.com/zengosm/index.php

Paradise Cove for drinks and seafood on the sand in Malibu http://www.paradisecovemalibu.com/beach-cafe/

Sunset - a nice beachfront Italian restaurant in Malibu http://www.thesunsetrestaurant.com/

Taverna Tony, you might spy a celeb, at this Greek restaurant in Malibu http://www.tavernatony.com/

Dukes and Paradise Cove are touristy. Dukes is probably a better option, as it's easy in/ out.

Malibu Seafood is better, but only on a weekday. Weekends mean LONG lines.

Sorry but Neptunes Net is a dive. Great if you like dives and fried foods, but Malibu Seafood is better, and has the view of the waves. Heck, they might as well stop at Topanga & PCH at Reel Inn.

There's also a few places near the Malibu Pier.

I don't think you'll be able to hold out past Malibu for lunch.

And do NOT take Lincoln into Santa Monica on a normal weekday. It's stop and go city traffic.

This traffic map will confirm that:

Oh, and if you take PCH up to Oxnard, the faster way is usually to take it as far as you can, until it turns into Rice. There was still a detour going on last month, and you'll have to go over a few blocks, but the drive on Las Posas is a lower speed. Great if you like the smell of farm country...
