Looking for a great place to stay in SB

Looking for a great place to stay with nice decor (definitely not country) Close to city for restaurants and people watching.

When is the Farmer'e Market during the week? Does the 25cent trolley cover a large area?

Hi Sue,

I'd highly recommend the Inn of the Spanish Garden (www.spanishgardeninn.com). Its definitely within walking distance of "downtown" since its only a few blocks away and is very romantic, and exceptionally clean. The staff is super friendly.

If you can splurge, take advantage of the fact that SB is home to the ONLY AAA Five Diamond bed and breakfast in the entire country - The Simpson House Inn. A little higher up on State Street, but still within walking distance to a lot of stuff.

Both of these places are wonderful in the ambiance department. There are farmers' markets all over the city, with one pretty much every day from Carpinteria to Goleta. You should try for the Tuesday afternoon State Street market, which officially (meaning they start selling) starts at 3:30 and is located starting on State and Ortega. You could also check out the Saturday morning market, which is up the street. You can get more information at www.sbfarmersmarket.org

Hope this helps.

Hi, we loved the Harbor View Inn, right across the street from Stearn's Wharf. Very nice property with a great pool and jacuzzi. Breakfast was included from Eladio's which was very good. Have fun! :)

Of the lodgings that have been mentioned, all of them are very nice. In a few words, the Spanish Garden is "romantic", the Simpson House Inn is "fine homey", and the Harbor View might be "modern high-end and beach central" (...never stayed in any of them, ...have peeked inside at the Spanish, ...just a judgment based on their appearance from the outside.)

Santa Barbara's Farmer's Markets are on Saturday mornings at Santa Barbara and Cota Streets and on late afternoon Tuesdays on lower State St.

The 25 cent shuttle goes up and down State St from the beach to Sola St - 1.3 miles. and back and forth along the beach on Cabrillo Blvd for 1.5 miles. It runs during the day on weekdays and till 10pm on weekends. It covers a fairly large area. It is easy enough to walk the same area, but whaddya want for 25 cents?! :-)
