SLO & surrounding area

We are thinking of flying into SLO spending anywhere from 4-6 nights, probably in March or April. What other ciites are close by or in driving distance for day trips How far is Santa Barbara or San Francisco?

maps.google.com is your friend :) You can map distances to your heart's content. SF is too far for a day trip though.

Many good day trips exist. Consider some of these: Santa Barbara, Solvang + Santa Ynez Valley wineries, Paso Robles wineries, Cambria + Hearst Castle, Big Sur, Pinnacles National Monument, Carrizo Plain National Monument.

Good day trips from SLO:

Cambria/Hearst Castle (45 minute drive)

Morro Bay/Montana de Oro State Park (20 minute drive)

Pismo/Avila Beaches (15 minute drive?

Solvang/Santa Ynez wine country (1 hour drive)

Santa Barbara ( 1 1/2 hour drive)

Monterey/Carmel: 2 hour drive via Highway 101/Highway 68. 3 1/2 via Highway 1 through Big Sur (scenic coast)

San Francisco is a 3 1/2 hour drive. Not really a good day trip.

We were in Shell Beach and Avila yesterday. Both towns have beautiful scenery. We love the shops in Avila and did some wine tasting also after tapas at Ventana Grill. :).

If you do decide to go to SLO, we have a B&B that we love there. It's about 10 minutes from downtown, near Edna Valley. It's called the Bridge Creek Inn, run by Sally and Gene Kruger. She is always full of great ideas and recommendations, and serves dynamite breakfasts. I would DEFINITELY recommend a look at their website: www.bridgecreekinn.com
