Hi Bob--

Well, I live here, and the main thing about weather in SLO is its general mildness year round. In May, expect highs 60-70 (15-20 C), lows in the lower 50s (10-12 C). There is a chance for fog on any day (but not every day), especially in the AM, since May-June is the fog season. But since SLO is about 10 miles from the coast, the fog is not like it might be in nearby Morro Bay. Rain is possible in May, but unlikely--the rainy season is typically Nov-April. The climate is exceedingly mild...It is not humid, but neither is it bone dry like a desert. I think "pleasant" is the right word.

That said, the weather can vary quite a bit just 50 miles in any direction from SLO. On the coast to the NW, it can be chilly and foggy by day (50s), while just 25 miles inland on the same day, it might be 90 degrees (say, near Paso Robles). So prepare for temperature variations if you travel around the region...

Bring a jacket, since nights can be surprisingly chilly.

May also tends to be a bit on the windy side, especially early in the month. Nice time of year, though.
