dinner with kids in SLO

I am bringing my teenage daughters on a trip down the coast. Any suggestions for a good casual restaurant? We don't mind dives that have good food. Could be anything, we're open to all kinds of ethnic, but we'd love something unique to the area or fun.

Thanks!

Jenmol

We love having breakfast at the Apple Farm Restaurant. Probably best in the area.

Aah, breakfast!

Louisa's Place consistently gets voted as "Best" in SLO every year:

The Custom House in Avila Beach also does a pretty nice breakfast. If you can get a sidewalk table, you'll have a nice view of the bay and pier.

You want a dive with GREAT food? You've got to go to Little Noi's Thai Takeout in Baywood Park (near Los Osos, south of Morro Bay). Off the beaten path, unknown to most travelers, barely room to sit down (except a couple tables outside), it is hands down far and away the best Thai food on the Central Coast. You would never believe it to look at it from the outside. Looks like a shack next to a laundromat. The spices, if you ask for the food to be hot, will blow your head off. They don't sell beverages of any kind--go across the street to the liquor store for that.

Suggestion: get the pineapple curry (served only on Saturday as the daily special), get a bottle of water (or beer, or a coke) across the street, and walk half a block to the picnic tables by the bay. Then eat. It does not get better than that. It actually does not.

Novo in SLO, Splash Cafe in Pismo and Custom House in Avila Beach are all very good. We also really like the Cracked Crab in downtown Pismo for a casual meal. www.centralcoast.com is a nice website for this area, enjoy your time at the coast! :)

I especially second the recommendation of Splash Cafe (in both SLO and Pismo), mostly because of their great bread and really good ahi sandwiches. Other people really go for their clam chowder (what they are famous for), but it's the ahi sandwich for me..just ask to have them put it on a ciabatta roll (instead of a bun). Really really good...
