Where to stay in SLO or SB?

Hi there, we are a family of 4, 2 adults & 2 children, trave.lling from SF to LA via Yosemite. Looking to spend one night along the way without breaking the bank! Any suggestions appreciated

So your plan is to access LA via the coast?

SLO is a good midway point, has a lovely downtown with great dining for families: Firestone Grill, Woodstock's Pizza.

Here's one hotel that offers suites (breakfast included):

If you would like a room on the ocean, you might want to consider Pismo Lighthouse Suites in Pismo Beach (15 minutes from SLO):

The rooms at Pismo Lighthouse Suites are VERY large and have 2 bathrooms. It's a nice property on a bluff overlooking the ocean.

Yosemite to SLO is about a 4 hour drive. To SB, about 5 1/2.

I gather you are taking highway 41 all the way from Yosemite to the coast?

I'd probably go through to Pismo Beach and look at the Pismo Lighthouse Suites first, then the Shore Cliff Lodge, Sandcastle Inn and the Sea Venture Hotel.

A real bargain....clean nice looking hotel that provides breakfast is the Best Western in Arroyo Grande....not far from Pismo.

We stayed earlier this year for around $80 with AAA Discount!

If your budget is tight, there are two Motel6 in SLO a block from each other. I prefer the "South" one over the "North" but they are both OK. Motel6 is a national budget chain. Don't expect a 5-star property but if you're looking for a very basic, clean place to stay one night it will be OK.

Some Motel6 are either in questionable neighborhoods, you wonder what's going on in some of the rooms, or the staff lacks customer service skills. But the ones in SLO are OK....but if the other recommendations are in-budget definitely go there instead.

SLO has the famous Madonna Inn....each room is uniquely decorated and very memorable. It might be out of budget, but stop by and use the restrooms off the lobby...very unique and I've seen men "clear" the men's room so the ladies could have a look at the decor! There's also "Bubble Gum Alley"....big on the eeeww factor but your kids will probably love it!
