Hi - can anyone recommend any campgrounds on the central coast between SLO and Santa Barbara? Thanks -
If you're one for scenic beach views, I highly recommend a small campground at Montaña de Oro. If you would like to see some pics of the area; here you go:
The only caveat is it can be a bit windy/chilly, however the 2 mile walk alongside the ocean is worth it. Be a bit careful given sheer cliffs are present throughout, but this area is often regarded as one of "California's Best Kept Secrets".
P.S. Don't forget comfy walking shoes out there.
I can recommend Cerro Alto Campground (which is just barely north of San Luis). It is a very wooded area next to a creek and the trails up the hill have great views. forestcamping.com/dow/…20alto
Also look at Pismo State Beach Northbeach Campground. It right next to a nice big sand beach and the adjacent monarch butterfly grove seems to have at least some butterflies year round.
I would normally also recommend the many campsites around Lake Cachuma, but with the recent wildfire it is probably a bit ashy and you may not enjoy the area because of poor air quality.
Avoid El Chorro Campground in San Luis as it's very dry and there are no trees at the actual camping area.
