Redondo Beach to LA

Hi, I am looking to stay in Redondo Beach but would like to go and see some of the LA sights. Can anyone tell me if there is public transport and when/where etc. Also any ideas of where is the best place to get off etc. Thanks

Its not a good idea to stay in Redondo Beach if you are wanting to see the LA sights and want to rely on public transportation. What public transportation links exist to the parts of LA where most tourist attractions are are slow, inconvenient, and will involve multiple bus / train changes.

So if you tell us the specific hotel and the sights you want to see, we can help you identify the correct buses / trains to use but I'd really suggest either renting a car if you want to stay there, or staying in a part of the city with better public transit access. Santa Monica is the best beach area if you won't have a car and want to see the rest of the city, but hotels there can be somewhat pricey. Hollywood is the best area overall without a car in terms of public transit access, and its not a big deal to reach Santa Monica from there via bus, but its still 45-60 minutes away from the beach by bus.

Thanks. We are staying at the best western rendono beach inn. We are driving from San fran down so will have the car. Have some concerns about driving into LA, I.e - is it manic, is there parking etc? If it's fairly straight forward driving is no issue for us.

Are you set on the best western Redondo Beach Inn because you got a good price? If so, it will take about 45 min. to leave the beach area, to see some sites in LA.

Also in the good price category is the Sea View Inn in Manhattan Beach if you want to be affordable by the beach and save 15-20 minutes driving time from RB.

If you avoid work commute times it will be helpful. Generally 7 to 9:30 am and 4 to 7 PM freeways are heavy. It can vary.

Yes, driving into the city will be fairly straight forward, you;d take the 405 freeway north from that hotel which is about a mile or so from the freeway. Avoid rush hour as mentioned above and it will be a piece of cake. Be sure to follow the signs so that you remain in the correct lanes to stay on the 405. Depending on exactly where you want to go, you'd take the 405 to the 10 freeway west (towards Santa Monica), 10 freeway east (towards downtown LA), or one of the major east / west streets after the 10 freeway ( Wilshire Blvd. west to Brentwood, Santa Monica, or east to Westwood, Beverly Hills, mid-Wilshire / Miracle Mile / Museum Row and downtown LA, or Sunset Blvd., which goes through Bel Air, Beverly Hills, West Hollywood, and Hollywood).
