New Years Eve in Pasadena

What is going on for New Years Eve in Pasadena? We are visiting from Chicago and won't have a car but are fine with taxis/public transportation. Are there fireworks? Price fixe dinners? Any input would be appreciated!

Of course there are NYE dinners at restaurants. Check OpenTable for reservations. There will not be firework. People will be lining Colorado Blvd in preparation for the Rose Parade. Where will you be staying?

No fireworks. Town will be packed (including campers on the sidewalks of Old Pasadena), so make a dinner reservation. So far, the only special event I've heard of is at Vertical Wine Bistro (dinner followed by music/party) in Old Pasadena, but I am sure there will be many. Check out the restaurants that interest you, and see if what they have planned.

You can also walk from Old Pasadena to see the floats lining up for the next morning in the staging area. This is a favorite all-ages thing for locals to do.

Watching line up is very fun. This happens on Orange Grove, and you will find many locals enjoying the completely free site. If you want to see most of the floats, you could arrive after dinner (around 11pm) and they should be mostly ready. Also, if your restaurant is on the right street, it is also likely that some of the floats will drive right past your restaurant on the way to line-up. That starts around 8pm, and can go until 1am (depending on how many floats break down on the way over!). Just make sure not to grab any flowers off the floats before they make it on camera! If you want to be super in the know, the term for moving the floats to line-up is "convoy".

And don't forget to visit Descanso Gardens and go for a nice walk via their gardens. Wow, so nice and take your time to enjoy it all. You can always go up to Fair Oaks Ave to Alta Vista Left to Chaney Trail and into the canyon of the Altadena mountains to visit Millard Canyon, stay on the trails only. Or, go up the street Lake Ave to the end, park where signs say its OK, walk into the mountains and check out the views from Mt Lowe. Or, walk around the other nearby gardens.

Then take a trip to Long Beach and Visit the Belmont Shores town and Naples for another nice walk or in the evening time see the x-mas lights and/or see the boat parade nearby. Rent a small boat and drive around, their electric. Have a fun New Year! Easy going.
