Good Area to Stay 2 Nights December?

Hi all,

Planning a 2 night stay in Palm Springs (area).

Want to visit Joshua Tree NP and either do tramway (is it San Jacinto mountain at top?) or Agua Caliente hike (with visit to Gen Store Museum?). Would also love to do hot springs but am confused as to where this can be done as a day visitor. I am not after hotel recommendations but just tips as to best sort of area to stay to do above.

Many thanks

When we stay in downtown PS we stay at the Chase Hotel. It's one block from Palm Canyon Dr where all the shops and restaurants are located. It's a wonderfully run hotel with a delicious breakfast served poolside, or you can take a tray back to your room. Some units have kitchens or fireplaces. In the afternoon the owners serve fresh baked cookies. Free parking.

If you are looking for more upscale suites, we like the Hyatt, not far from the Chase. Also if you will be in PS on a Thursday evening, you can walk to Villagefest held on the streets and featuring crafts, food and live entertainment.

Thank you. The Chase Hotel sounds perfect for us!
