Downtown Palm Springs or Old Town La Quinta

Looking for the friendliest area in terms of pubs, restaurants, walking areas. Plan to drive to other areas, but would like to stay in a location where I can walk out the door and find fun places to eat. Old Town La Quinta was recommended - but would like to hear what others have to say.

We love staying at the La Quinta Resort, and Old Town LQ is nice, but nothing like the blocks and blocks of pubs and restaurants in downtown Palm Springs, on Palm Canyon Drive.

We like to stay at the Chase hotel in PS. It's one block from town and you can walk everywhere.

Agree with CAnative. Old Town LQ is not all that big compared to downtown PS, where you will find a wide variety of places to eat.

That's Unanimous. Old Twon La Quinta is very small. Worth a visit but downtown PS has a lot more to do and see.

Old Town LQ is a poor imitation of the original Palm Springs.

Thanks so much for your advice - I really appreciate it. Another question - Chase Hotel or Desert Riviera Hotel or ? Both these places sound inviting.

When we stay at the Chase, it's because we want to be close to restaurants and shops. We like being able to go to Villagefest on Thursday evenings by just walking down the street.

We like the small friendly atmosphere of the Chase. Nice breakfast served daily around the pool.

Recently went to the Desert Riviera for dinner. It was a happening place, with live music, concierge, valet parking, etc. The swimming pool was bigger and there were some fire pits for kids to roast marshmallows and make S'mores. You would have to drive to the restaurants in PS.

Also near downtown PS are many other boutique type inns in addition to Chase.

I like the Desert Hills Resort Hotel and Casa Cody.
