Palm Springs vs Phoenix in August

We are thinking of visiting California in August and spending a week in the Palm Springs area. I know it will be very hot, we visited Phoenix in Aug the year before last and although it was in the 100s everyday the heat was bearable. Is this the case in PS. We are not going to be doing anything more strenuous than sitting around pool (maybe lifting the odd beer!). Also can anyone recommend between the Marriott Las Palmas and the Westin Mission Hills both get similar reviews, which would be better for children.

As always thanks for any advice on the above or anything else in the PS area.

The heat will be the same, dry. If you can handle AZ, you can handle PS. As far as the 2 resorts, posters on here like the Westin for kids. BUT

the Marriott Las Palmas is very nice and is across the stret from The River, which is an indoor, outdoor area of shops, movie theatres and great places to eat with everyhting from an ice cream cone to Flemings Steak House. Its nice to go there in the heat of the sday and see a movie or walk around at nite and listen to live music. I also prefer that Marriott as it is laid out like condos and doesnt feel like a hotel.

Strange that it us Brits who like Palm Springs in Summer - but its could to feel heat once in a while.

We love PS and will be spending a week in July doing the same as yourselves.

The beauty of PS, IF the heat does get to you, you can take the arial tramway upto into the mountains where the air is cooler.

Enjoy your trip

It's not just the Brits!!

In the 80's and into the 90's Palm Springs used to be empty in summer but the prices to visit during the season have gotten so high that summer rise the only time most families and many tourists can really afford to visit. In some cases, you are looking at a 50% drop in room/condo rates.

remember that it is low season in ps and some tourist things are shut. Having said that the resaurants had good deals including free desserts etc. Try to go to visit Idyllwild up in the mountains. It is glorious up there and the air is clear. Also visit Joshua Tree. We` were there in late June last year.
