Hotel/Vacation rental/both?

Hi,

First trip to PS over Halloween for 2 weeks.

Myself and wife and 20 month old

Son and our friends and their 16 month old daughter.

We are looking for some winter sun and ideally somewhere walking distance to restaurants/bars etc....

On one hand we like the idea of a rental home with private pool, on the other, the thought of a hotel with splash pools and fun for the toddlers and a close by bar for drinks and snacks appeals.....

Amy recommendations on hotels and also what sort of area would give us what we need if we were to book a rental

Home?

We will have a car but would

Be nice to be able to all enjoy a few drinks in the evening at a restaurant.

Thanks

As far as a resort to stay at, you described Omni Rancho Las Palmas. It has an area called Splashtopia which includes a lazy river you can float around and a sandy beach which works great with the young ones. There is a larger pool next to Splashtopia and an adult pool area about 100 yards away. Drinks and food can be purchased at all these locations. Across the street from Rancho Las Palmas is a theater/restaurant complex called The River. Look into these and you will find most everything you asked for. My wife and I are there for 2 weeks every March. Have been going to Palm Springs since 1979. Lots of changes over the years, but love this place. Have fun!

Hi there,

Have you looked at Omni Rancho Las Palmas? It is located in Rancho Mirage, and is a very family-friendly property. They have an onsite water park, Splashtopia, and the resort is just across the street from The River, a shopping and dining complex with restaurants, bars and a theater.

In Palm Springs, you might consider Palm Mountain Resort or the Hyatt. The Hyatt is right in downtown with plenty of restaurants and bars within walking distance. Palm Mountain Resort is also very close, just a block behind the main strip of Palm Canyon Drive.

In La Quinta, the La Quinta Resort and Club has 41 pools--plenty for the entire family to enjoy. It's a five-minute drive to the bars and restaurants of Old Town La Quinta.

In Indian Wells, Renaissance Indian Wells has a pool with a sandy beach for the toddlers to play on, and Eureka! is a nice bar/restaurant less than a five-minute drive away.

Hope this helps!

Those are excellent suggestions. If you're interested in a home, I recommend going to the Oranj Palm home rental website - they have a ton of great properties. (I'm not affiliated with them; we just rented a house they manage and we really like their customer service.)

Central neighborhoods to restaurants and shops within Palm Springs include Tennis Club, Old Las Palmas, Vista Las Palmas, and Deepwell.

The toddlers might enjoy the Children's Discovery Museum of the Desert in Rancho Mirage on Gerald Ford Drive.

CDMOD is not far from The River. In terms of eating and dining venues, The River and surrounding area has plenty of walkable choices at all price ranges where you can enjoy a libation or two and not worry about driving. Even if you opt for something that requires auto transport, taxi, Uber and Lyft are available. If in the downtown PS area, you can use the Buzz Trolley.

If you look into vacation rentals you might want to find one that has a tanning shelf (aka baja shelf) which doubles as a great kiddie pool. Check out on Trip Advisor these two properties offered by Acme House Company The West Elm House (#FKN8771908) and Run to the Sun (#FKN5571711)
