Wouldn't you rather want to see the sunset instead of the sunrise???? The sunrise will appear over some non-descript hotels while the sunset will be towards the west where Lover's Point overlooks.

That's the nice thing about that time of year - you don't have to get up very early to see the sun rise and you don't have to stay out long to see the sun set :)

Actually, the sunrise from Lover's Point would quite lovely. It overlooks Monterey Bay and part of the Pacific Grove shoreline. There are no buildings within view for at least a mile, and definitely no hotels that you can make out.

Enjoy your visit, but keep in mind that February could be rainy or cloudy, making it difficult to see the sun rise or set.

Last time I drove by there I remember some buildings across the way. Am I thinking of a different place?

Dr. Z, Lovers Point faces the sunrise better than the sunset. The northwest corner of the Peninsula blocks the views of the sunset, which is better viewed from Point Pinos or anywhere south of there. Lovers Point has a clear view across the bay east towards Seaside, which may be the "buildings across the way." So from Lovers Point the sun rises over Seaside and the bay, and sets over the NW side of Pacific Grove.

Here's a photo of the view from Lover's Point looking back toward Monterey. The only buildings in view are the Hopkins Marine Station and the MBA (aside from the homes/B&B's along Ocean View Blvd to the right):

This is the view looking eastward. Perfect place to watch a sunrise.
