looking for local opinion

Hi there,

We are planning our trip to CA for next summer. We will be coming from Yosemite and plan to stay a few days either in the Pacific Grove/Monterey/Carmel area or in Big Sur if we can get reservations..boy they book up fast! We are still considering a VRBO as well.

I did run across a couple of lodging options in Pacific Grove and wondered if any locals would mind chiming in on these. I am not big on chains:

Borg's Ocean Front Motel

Bide-A-Wee Inn & Cottages

Thanks

Big Sur to Ventura is about a 5 hour drive without stops, but just try not to! Big Sur down to Cambria is breathtaking. Expect on making several stops to take in the view.

The views from Lucia's restaurant parking lot are amazing!

And Ragged Point is the last elevated area on Highway 1 with gorgeous views. This is a great place to get out and stretch your legs. There's also a restaurant, mini market, gas station (VERY expensive gas, BTW), restrooms and lodging on the property.

Just south of the Piedras Blancas Lighthouse is the elephant seal rookery where you'll see hundreds of seals laying on the beach.

Then there's Hearst Castle a few miles south of the seals, the lovely coastal hamlet of Cambria, Morro Bay, Pismo Beach and Santa Barbara.

This could easily take up a whole day or two to explore.
