1st timer to Newport with 2 kids(9 and 11)

My 9 and 11 year old girls have never been to a beach. We will be there two days. They are excited to see animals and sea life. What should we do? Thanks for your help:)

Definitely take them to the Muth Interpretive Center at the Upper Newport Bay Ecological Preserve, where there is a wonderful kid-friendly display about the wildlife seen in the wetlands and beach areas. http://ocparks.com/parks/newport/

Depending upon the time of year you are coming, you could also consider a whale watching tour.

Just looked at your link, my daughters would like that! Thank you. We will be there the end of May.

There are tide pools in a number of areas. We went to Dana Point south of Laguna Beach and there is a neat tide pool beach right by the Ocean Institute. http://www.ocean-institute.org/ . Also visit Huntington Beach Pier and beach. Fun restaurants and shops in the area. Nice kite shop too.

The Ocean Institute is a fun place to visit. Its a learning facility for schools in the area. Right across the harbor is Capt Daves Dolphin Safari. They have whale tours with a boat that has underwater viewing pods that the kids may enjoy.

We were always delighted simply by seeing pelicans in the bay along the Balboa Fun Zone.

Not many Pelicans these days in the bay around the fun zone. But there have been white pelicans in the wetland areas lately.

If you are in Newport, I'd go to the tide pools at Little Corona in Newport Beach.

Maybe consider a whale/dolphin watching excursion out of Newport Landing or Davey Jones' Locker.

Cruise Newport Harbor via a sightseeing boat or an electric boat rental or even stand up paddling and you'll certainly see some sea lions in the Pavilion area. In the morning, you often see them while riding the ferry from Balboa Island to the Peninsula (that's you riding the ferry, not the sea lions!).
