Here's some information about the boat parade http://www.christmasboatparade.com/

Frankly I wish I could turn you into me for an evening. One of my friends with a waterfront home hosts a boat parade party every year which bores me to tears.

("Everybody wave at the drunk people on the boats!") Bah humbug. I can't get out of it this year unless I come down with a convenient case of the flu.

Oh, Cats...can I be you?!?! One of the things I miss most about living there is the parade.

To the OP: I suggest a tour boat. We have done that a couple of times with family of all ages and really enjoyed ourselves. We like Duffy Boats. They are dirve yourself electric boats, so you can go at your own pace and fit your whole group. If it is just the two of you, try one of the charter options. Another option would be a restaraunt with a view of the parade, like The Charthouse...but, that option will be a very crowded.

You can take a boat tour of the parade:

Or, you can watch the parade pass by from one of the public viewing areas. Personally, I think the best place to see it is from the dock of the Balboa Island Ferry (http://www.balboaislandferry.com/). The parade boats usually pass about 15-20 feet off the dock, so you get a very close view. You can also take the ferry accross while the parade comes by, to offer a different view.

The ferry is located in the Balboa Fun Zone (http://thebalboafunzone.com/). It is a festive atmosphere during the parade, plenty of carolers and families milling about.

Between boat tour and restaurant, we liked the restaurant option best. It wasnt because boaters were 'drunk' as someone claimed, its just too nippy for us out on the water.

The Rusty Pelican provided a very festive atmosphere for us that evening

Missaka, you misquoted me again. I never said that the "boaters" or drivers of the boats were drunk. I referred to the practice of waiving to the people (riding) on the boats, many of whom are often well lubricated.
