A 1/2 day in Laguna or Newport Beach on a Saturday

Love all you Trip Advisor posters! Thank you!

My husband and I will be going to LA visiting my cousin May 19-27. We will be spending 3 nights at her place in El Segundo. (I've been to LA/SD before, but my husband's never been.)

Tues. we go to Temecula to do a winery tour & stay at Pechanga Casino. Weds. AM to SD...

My cousin will bring us to SD, she'll stay 1 night & go home. Leaving us there till Sat. We will rent a car in SD, (staying at the Marriott Marina). We plan to do Coronado, SD Zoo & Balboa Park, Gaslamp at night, Old Town? Mission Beaches? La Jolla?

We will take our time, and many photos, driving back to LA on a Saturday. I plan to leave early as I want to stop in Laguna, Newport Beach, Huntington Beach etc. Know of any nice place for lunch & cokctails that has outdoor seating w/people watching or on the water in either Laguna or Newport ? Will there be a lot of traffic on a Sat. heading to LA if we are on PCH for that stretch? (It is memorial day weekend.)

I plan on getting back to my cousins in El Segundo by around 5:00 PM. We depart out of LAX the next afternoon.

Thank you again...

Any suggestions would be great. Thanks for you rhelp!

Balboa Island is fun....and those Balboa Ice Cream bars are iconic down there...the ferry will take you over to Balboa Peninsula and you can go to the wedge and watch the monster waves and the crazy surfers there.
